THE HOMESTEAD HOUSE
The "Homestead House" was built in 1948 in rugged untamed country, by the hard work and determination of the Hylens. Since that time the house has had several additions and upgrades as well as a new location. The present day house is a clean and cozy Alaska Bed & Breakfast with a homey atmosphere. The history and the original house are still within.
In 1948 there was no road connecting Ninilchik with Kenai, and the only way to get to the area was to walk the beach, go by boat, or take a plane. The Hylens chose a barge out of Anchorage and set sail for Ninilchik with supplies, groceries, and building materials. They were awakened at 4 A.M. by the call "we will be on the beach in 10 minutes". Planks were put down over the side of the boat as well as all their belongings and they began to push, roll and haul it above the high tide mark on an incoming tide. Some of their belongings did not beat the tide in, so they fished lumber and groceries out of the Inlet, dried it all out and carried it up the bluff to begin building their Homestead House. Through much hard work and determination, the house was constructed through the summer and was completed in September 1954.

Room Rates are $70.00 per night, based on double occupancy, and an additional $20.00 per person for our 3 bed room and cabin. A hot home style breakfast is served between 7:00 and 9:00 A.M. Go to our packages link to get discounts on fishing and lodging. A 50% deposit is required to guarantee the reservation. A 30 day advance notice is required in order to receive a full refund on deposit, less than 30 days half the deposit will be refunded, and less then 7 days your deposit will not be refunded.
